The West Rutland School offers a variety of fine arts activities including both courses and extracurricular activities. WRS employs two art teachers, Mrs. Graves who teaches elementary and middle school art classes, and Mrs. Protivansky who teaches high school art classes. Courses in the catalog include arts and crafts, ceramics, and painting. The WRS art department has been collaborating with The Carving Studio and Sculpture Center to provide unique opportunities for high school students. In addition, WRS is involved with a project sponsored by Omya and in collaboration with the Chafee Art Center to integrate art into all content areas. The WRS art department also exhibits an art show in the spring. The art show includes art work from our students and local artists. The WRS Music Department challenges and stretches the minds of youthful musicians of all ages. The department includes Mr. Henry and Ms. Cromer; together they teach all music classes K-12, including instrumental lessons, and the program includes ample opportunities for performances for musicians of all ages. Students in grades fourth through sixth have a chance to try new instruments, of their choice, and to learn to play them in a real band. Chorus and band is offered for students in grades 7-12, and there are advanced courses offered each year.
