Technology at West Rutland School:
Updates are available on the WRS Technology Blog
At WRS technology is available to students of all ages. In addition to the two 15-station computer rooms there are four mobile computer rooms in the building:
- A 15-station computer room is reserved primarily for elementary school classes
- A 15-station computer room is used primarily for teaching middle school and high school computer classes
- A 14-laptop mobile computer room is used primarily by the math department
- A 14-laptop mobile computer room is moved throughout the building as needed
- An 8-laptop mobile computer room is used in the computer and library area
- A 5-laptop mobile computer room is used primarily by the high school English department
In addition, each classroom has at least one computer connected to the school network and the Internet. Those machines are used for a range of tasks, including instruction. Currently, approximately 30% of the building is covered by a wireless Ethernet network, and plans are in place to extend that throughout the building by June 2006.
Recent professional development for teachers has focused on the integration of technology into instruction, and teachers students are actively using software to promote literacy and numeracy.
