The institute faculty is a collection of middle level practitioners with experience teaching adolescents, preparing middle level teachers, providing leadership and conducting research in the field.

Gary L. Ackerman Educational technologist for all strands
|
Currently, Gary is the computer teacher and technology coordinator at the West Rutland School. Over his sixteen year career, Gary has taught science, math, and computers, and has served as interdisciplinary team leader. Participants in his courses at UVM and CSJ, and at the numerous summer institutes where he teaches, enjoy his "low-stress" approach to technology. Gary is a frequent presenter at NELMS conferences and is a member of the NELMS technology committee. His professional interests include school technology planning and electronic portfolios. In his spare time, Gary is pursuing a second master's degree and enjoys spending time on Lake Champlain and the New England coast. | |

| Linda Bourne Instructor for the Curriculum Strand |
Linda is currently the
School Improvement Coordinator for the Southeast region of VT. In that
position, she works with schools to design workable action plans, understand
data, and find resources to direct . Her earlier life was spent in K -
8 classrooms for 30 years, the last 15 years were in grades 5 - 8
primarily as a language arts teacher, a writing network leader and a VAMLE
board member. She is looking forward to sharing and having a great week with extraordinary middle level people. |

Betsy A. Memoe Instructor for the Organizing for Learning Strand |
Betsy is a middle school guidance counselor at Manchester Elementary-Middle School in Manchester, Vermont. She has been teaching middle school students for the past seventeen years as a guidance counselor, health educator, physical education teacher, coach and coordinator of extra-curricular activities. She has worked both in the state of Vermont and overseas and has experience working with students in grades pre-k through 12th grade. She has been working as a middle school consultant with several local schools, developing/strengthening advisory programs. Betsy enjoys spending time outdoors, exploring the National Parks, traveling and spending time with family and friends. | |
